How to take advantage of the District Admin Data Dashboard

As a District Admin user, you can access the District Admin Data Dashboard

The District Admin Data Dashboard allows you to view data and gain insights at the district level.

You can access it by clicking on the Data tab in the purple sidebar, then selecting the District Admin View tab. If you don't see this tab, you may not have District Admin permissions — reach out to support@hilightedu.com and we can help.

At the top of the District Admin View, you'll find a time range selector. It defaults to the current school year, but you can also filter to Last Month, Last Week, Today, or a Custom date range.

Overview Statistics

Three stat tiles give you a district-wide snapshot:

  • Total boosts of joy — the total number of hilights received across your district (hover the ⓘ for more detail)
  • Hilights sent — total hilights sent district-wide
  • Hilights celebrated — how many times hilights have been celebrated with the ✨ button

Hilights Sent by Core Value

This donut chart shows the district-wide breakdown of hilights sent across each of your core values. It's a great conversation starter for leadership discussions about which values are showing up most in your culture — and which ones you might want to put more focus on.

Participation this School Year

Four gauge metrics give you a district-wide view of engagement:

  • % of hilights sent by staff vs. % sent by admin
  • % of staff who have sent at least one hilight
  • % of staff who have received a hilight

These help you understand whether recognition is broadly distributed across your district or concentrated in certain schools or roles.

Total Hilights Sent by School this School Year

This horizontal bar chart ranks each school (and department) in your district by hilights sent. It's one of the most actionable views on the dashboard — high-usage schools are great candidates to share what's working with the rest of your district. We highly recommend getting principals from your most active schools to share how they've built Hilight into their culture!

How Hilights were Sent Across your District this School Year

This Sankey diagram uses AI to classify your staff's job titles into role categories and then visualize how hilights flow between those groups. Each bar on the left represents a role category that sent hilights; the flows to the right show which role categories received them. Wider flows mean more hilights exchanged between those groups. Hover over any flow to see the exact number and percentage.

This chart is a powerful way to see whether recognition is crossing role boundaries in your district — for example, whether classroom educators are recognizing support staff, or whether recognition is primarily staying within the same role group.

Note: this chart requires the AI Classification feature to be enabled for your district. Contact support@hilightedu.com if you're interested.

Top 10 Senders and Top 10 Receivers

These two leaderboards show your most active hilight senders and most-recognized staff members district-wide, including their role and school. They're great for celebrating your biggest recognition champions and identifying staff who are making a real impact across your district.

Engagement Tables

At the bottom of the dashboard are two side-by-side tables:

  • Staff Who Have Not Sent a Hilight this School Year
  • Staff Who Have Not Received a Hilight this School Year

Both tables include first name, last name, role/job title, and user type, and can be filtered and sorted by any column. Use these to target your outreach and make sure no one is falling through the cracks. Each table has an Export button to download the list as a CSV.
